ABOUT THE WORK
December 7th – Carefree in the Desert
Today’s painting is inspired by the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. After many years in TX, the next stop was Cave Creek, AZ a beautiful area that borders Scottsdale and Carefree. I loved living in the desert in the winter; not so much in the summer months, the heat was brutal. Prickly Pear cactus grow in a variety of shapes and colors. I have painted many cacti, and this is my favorite color combination.
Today’s trivia:
My mom said when you cut a prickly pear open, its red inside like a watermelon. I have no idea why or when she would do this? Cacti are prickly, and she lives in Colorado. I would ‘fact check’ this before you try this experiment on your own.
Double bonus today….
Prickly Pear Margarita
Coarse salt as needed
2 oz tequila
2 oz sweet and sour mix
1 fluid ounce triple sec
1 oz lime juice
1 oz prickly pear syrup
Shake it up and pour it on the rocks.
I have never tried this Margarita, but the next time I am in AZ it’s on my list of things to do.
