ABOUT THE WORK
Day 1 -
'It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas'
Welcome to the 25 Days of Minis 2020. I am so excited to be part of this art show with 45 other talented artists from across the nation.
First, I want to share a little bit about myself.
I was born and raised near Denver, Colorado. My father’s family originated from the Abruzzo region in Italy, settled in the Denver area and began farming in the early 1900’s.
As a child, I remember when the soil would dry up after the vegetables were irrigated. I drew flowers, people, and elaborate communities with sticks on the sandy ditch banks. The texture and colors of the vegetables growing at the foot of the beautiful Rocky Mountains has inspired my work.
I currently live in Hulett, Wyoming, a small town near Devils Tower, our Nation’s First National monument...more famously know from Steven Spielberg's movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind.' I am surrounded by the beauty of the Black Hills, large family ranches, a fabulous golf course, and magnificent sunsets.
Each day I will share the inspiration behind my painting and take you on a journey to places I have visited, lived, and enjoy. I promise my posts will be much shorter.
Now about the painting...Poinsettias always bring me to a happy place in my childhood. When we were kids my parents would get together with their friends who were greenhouse growers and play cards. They had a fun home with six kids; my sister and I would run and play in the greenhouses with them. They were always filled with flowers, and at Christmas time poinsettias. Of course, the red poinsettias were my favorite. I always have them in my home at Christmas.
Here is a little trivia...34 million poinsettias are sold in a 6-week period! That is a lot of poinsettias.
