ABOUT THE WORK
"Corner Pocket" brings back memories of a dive bar with pool tables in lower Manhattan. On Tuesday nights, an incredible dancer/DJ played great music perfect for dancing west coast swing. The song, which is a nice medium tempo for east coast swing, was popularized by Count Basie. While both dances have their roots in Lindy Hop, east coast swing is more of a rotational dance and west coast swing has a slotted , back and forth movement. The mark making in this painting indicates this moving in a slot motion. West coast swing is usually danced to slower music, especially rhythm and blues type songs. The composition of this piece signifies a calm, laid back vibe. It has a contemporary thin, white floater frame that brings the dimensions to 12 3/8" x 12 3/8" x 1 1/2" deep.
