ABOUT THE WORK
This alley used to house workers at the steel mill.
Recruiters from the steel mill used to go down to the docks in Philly and hire immigrants disembarking from the ships.
One moment you are stepping off a ship with your future completely unknown, the next, you're traveling 20 miles North with a job, and a place to live a few blocks away.
The courage it must have taken to make that journey.
