Life is a balancing act. Energy needed to truly be present for family, career and community must be counterbalanced with energy and restorative time spent on yourself. You need to fill up the tank before you can drive the car. I refill my tank by spending time in nature and then painting those moments that recharged my soul.
I believe that art has the ability to replenish the spirits of those who live with it and/or create it. My paintings reconnect me with those simple moments in nature that took my breath away --- the glow at sunset, a joyous field of sunflowers or the rhythms of boat masts reflected in quiet waters. My hope is to paint, recapture and share these instances in nature that allowed me to forget about the rest of the world. My rhythmic and balanced compositions reflect the tranquility of these moments. Light, color and texture, invite you into my paintings where you can slow down, take a deep breath and savor the moment.
Pastel is my primary medium and its immediacy and vibrant colors convey joy, wonderment or peace. My pastels are applied to a panel that is under painted with warm orange, peach and purple acrylics which allow the paintings to glow. Before applying the pastel, the acrylics are coated with a pumice mixture that provides texture.
Favorite places of inspiration include the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the New Jersey Shore, the Brandywine River Valley, Hudson, New York and Maine. Trips to Ireland, France and Italy have energized my work. I paint at Heron Crest Studios in Aston PA where I am open by appointment throughout the year
